NAPOLCOM announces 719 police recruit slots

TAGBILARAN CITY, August 3 (PIA)--The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) is inviting police applicants for the 719 positions it needs to fill up in the Visayas.

NAPOLCOM assistant Regional Director Jose Concepcion Jr., revealed this at the recent provincial Peace and Order Council Meeting Friday, July 29, at the Mansion Conference Hall.

Opened for police officer 1 in the second cycle are 700 positions which have been vacated and would be filled by attrition quota, the Napolcom ARD who has roots in Catanduanes said.

The first recruitment cycle ended July 15 with 356 new police officer 1 took oaths and the second cycle is opening soon, for the attrition quota, NAPOLCOM said.
Earlier, the NAPOLCOM approved the recruitment of 21,200 personnel for the plantilla position of Police Officer 1 via its Resolution No 2016-285.

The move was to increase police manpower, strength improve their police to population ratio, enhance their visibility and anti-insurgency operations, NAPOLCOM, through reports said.

The recruitment slot is so structured that they would accept 10,000 civilians for their regular recruitment and 11,200 of the attrition quota.

By attrition quota, Director Concepcion meant the filling up of vacated personnel positions by virtue of retirement, death, separation, dropping from the rolls, dismissal and resignation from the police service.

Director Concepcion explained that in the regular quota recruitment, Region 7 had 375 slots, but only 356 were taken, so a balance of 19 is carried over to the second cycle.

By the second cycle, which starts anytime, Region 7 gets 700 slots for attrition while adding the remaining 19 slots.

And because the filling up of positions could be assignments in town police stations, NAPOLCOM said applicants must carry endorsements from mayors, adding that this may solve the concern for the quality of recruits.

"We can not allow the appointment of PO1s who are involved in illegal drugs," Dir Concepcion stressed.

On this, the NAPOLCOM intends to set up a system of putting up police banns where applicants submit their pictures for posting in public places.

"To eliminate those who are reportedly involved in illegal drugs and criminality, the community has a role," he said on the posting of banns, adding too that priests may be requested to announce the notices.

The authorities feared that new police officers may be financed by drug organizations to infiltrate the system.

In the first cycle of recruitment, Dir. Concepcion admitted they have disqualified 2-3 applicants from Bohol for their involvement in drugs.

Applicants to the position must be Filipino citizens, with good moral character, physically and mentally fit, must keep a professionals Career Service eligibility, PNP entrance (NAPOLCOM), honorable discharge if working, no final conviction on crimes involving moral turpitude, at least 5'4 for males and 5'2 for females, weighs not more that 5 kilograms from standard weight to height, age and sex, must be 21 and not over 30.

Qualified applicants may submit their filled up application forms with 2x2 ID picture at the recruitment and selection section, office of the regional Personnel and Human Resources Development Division for initial screening.

Prescreened applicants after this proceeds to Physical Agility Test, Psychiatric and Psychological Examinations, Physical Medical Dental Examination, Drug test and Final Deliberation before taking oaths as police officers, according to NAPOLCOM. (rac/PIA-7/Bohol)
