Gov. Chatto asks media help in exposing illegal plate numbers
GOVERNOR Edgar Chatto blows the whistle at politicians using commemorative plates in vehicles and asks the media to expose those who abuse the authority of the plates.
That way, it would be easier for law enforcement to carry out their mandates, Chatto stressed amid LTO agents and the provincial peace and order council.
The call may also be cast upon persons who use unauthorized vehicle plate numbers to easily slip through checkpoints.
Land Transportation Office Tagbilaran City Registrar Joel Maloloy-on said these commemorative plates are illegal and are not sanctioned by the agency.
Vehicles marked Mayor, Councilor, Lawyer, or any other fancy plates still ply Bohol streets that many traffic enforcement agents and deputies are placed in a tough position on how to deal with them, admits Maloloy-on.
We do not want these situations happening in the streets, implied Governor Chatto who hinted that traffic deputies may simply turn their faces away when they see these plates on vehicles rather than messing with the people who use them, even if these are illegal.
The easiest way to address the problem of officials not keeping up with the standards of good behavior, is to ask the media to help us expose who they are, Chatto said.
The governor also assured he will not lift a finger to protect anybody who is named abusing the authority of using illegal plate numbers.
Leadership by example, Chatto beamed as he admitted that used an LTO issued number 8 plate when he was still in Congress but also uses the vehicle’s real plate number at the back.
He said such is to get away from traffic then.
Chatto also said he has been issued a commemorative plate by the League of Provinces now but he doesn’t display the plate in his car.
I wonder what are the agreements forged by the leagues and the LTO regarding these, he said meaning the issued commemorative plates.
Maloloy-on on the other hand explained that the commemorative plates can still be used when displayed beside the LTO issued plates; not without the real plate visibly placed.
Deputies and traffic agents allege that some people using these vehicle plates scold and threaten them if they flag down their vehicles. (racPIABOhol)
